Machine/Plant: Universal Cross-Flow Shredder Bio QZ, Reject Compactor ReCo 70
Technology: Recycling of biogenic material
Location: China
ANDRITZ supplied a Cross-Flow Shredder Bio QZ and a Reject Compactor ReCo 70 to process kitchen and restaurant waste. The Bio QZ uses heavy chains instead of knives to treat input material, creating more contact surface for bacteria. This reduces retention time in the fermenter notably; gas formation starts faster and more intensively. The result is high-grade substrate with little odor nuisance. The Reject Compactor ReCo is a robust screw to dewater material to the required dryness for further use.

The paper fraction is transferred to a REDWAVE NIR/C 2400 unit to remove contamination from the News and Pams and a further REDWAVE NIR 1600 3 way in the 3D line unit separates plastic containers by material identification with high levels of efficiency, representing excellent value for money by positively removing 2 products.

REDWAVE has delivered the full sorting line with conveying belt, vibration feeder, two additional belts for output streams and REDWAVE NIR (SSI – hyper spectral imaging). The main technical requirements for the sorting machine is the cleaning and sorting of hard thermoplastic chips (flakes) coming from shredded-electronic waste. The material size is from 10 to 50 mm and the capacity of the line is from 2,300 kg to 3,000 kg per hour depending on the input material.

Nemetz was converting its entire sorting plant. The company has decided for several reasons to convert and expand the existing sorting plant in Leopoldsdorf. On the one hand, capacity needs required this new investment, but also the sorting results of the processing plant proved to be worthy of improvement and were supposed to be brought up to the latest state of technology. For the most part, the sorting was done manually. This sorting process was optimised. Both in terms of sorting result quality and plant efficiency, the plant’s conversion and use of two REDWAVE sorting machines resulted in a significant increase in the efficiency of the entire sorting plant and also improved the sorting depth.

Not all RDFs are equal: Vexor Technology Inc. has opened a new Vexor Engineered Fuel (VEF) operation “made by Lindner” in Gary/Indiana, just south of Chicago.
Lindner had already supplied a Komet 2800 HP for refuse-derived fuel production in Medina, Ohio, the headquarters of the American waste management company that was founded in 1999. Designed and built by Lindner, a plant for the production of high-tech fuels has now been founded by Vexor in cooperation with Carmeuse Lime & Stone at the new site in Gary, Indiana. Lindner has also supplied three stationary shredders – a Lindner Jupiter 3200 for primary shredding and two Komet 2800 HP models for secondary shredding – as well as the sorting and conveying technology required to produce the extra-special “Vexor Engineered Fuel.”

15 years ago ThermoTeam started producing solid recovered fuels for the cement industry. Incredibly, one million tons of energy rich SRF have already left the production line designed entirely by Lindner-Recyclingtech. With this innovative facility for sustainable and environmentally friendly waste processing in Styria, Austria, cement manufacturer Lafarge has already been able to save 1.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2). This is the amount of CO2 that the average car would emit while circumnavigating the earth approximately 230.000 times.

With the one-step Polaris 2800 stationary shredder, UK company North West Recycling in Brampton is using an innovative Lindner all-in-one primary and secondary shredder. High-quality, cost-efficient, one-step shredding in a low-energy machine. The technical process includes shredding, sorting and separating recyclable, high-quality materials. These materials, including PPK (paper/cardboard), glass, textiles, waste wood, certain hard plastics and, last but not least, iron and non-ferrous scrap metals, are then subsequently recycled. With a facility throughput of around 100,000 tonnes of mixed waste each year, we achieve a waste recovery rate of approximately 95 per cent.

Only waste from the recycling of waste paper (rejected products, sludges and pulp) undergoes thermal utilization, and the high-pressure steam created is used to generate electricity and supply the Nine Dragons’ paper mills with processing steam. Rejected products and sludge are a considerable challenge in boiler operations due to the corrosive substances and impurities they contain. As a result, they require a special design. Nine Dragons Paper is the largest paper producer in Asia and leads the field in resource-saving paper production, observing the most stringent environmental standards.
